In a landmark shift for the textile testing industry, Lawson Hemphill has been acquired and will now operate from its new headquarters in Shanghai, China. This move marks a significant strategic realignment for the historic brand, known globally for precision yarn testing and knitting lab equipment.

The decision to relocate to Shanghai—a global hub for textile manufacturing and innovation—was driven by the need to be closer to the company’s largest and fastest-growing customer base in Asia. By embedding operations within one of the world’s most dynamic supply chain ecosystems, Lawson Hemphill aims to reduce lead times, improve local technical support, and respond more rapidly to market demands.

Under new ownership, the company retains the Lawson Hemphill name and its legacy of engineering excellence, but now benefits from streamlined logistics and regional supply chains. Customers can expect the same high-quality testing instruments—such as the Electronic Evenness Tester and Fiber Inspector Knitter—now supported by faster service turnaround and localized spare parts inventory.

While some long-time partners may feel nostalgic about the departure from its previous home, the move to Shanghai is widely seen as a forward-looking step. It positions Lawson Hemphill to compete aggressively in the modern textile economy while preserving the precision and reliability the brand has stood for over decades.

For existing customers: all warranties, service agreements, and calibration support remain valid. Transition teams are in place to ensure a smooth handover, and the new Shanghai facility is already ramping up production.
